mentorship & community experiences for preteen & teen girls 🤟🦄🦋😍
about & contact
“badass”
adj. 1. fearless, authentic, and compassionate, Urban Dictionary
Are you a parent who loves a badass girl?
Welcome!
We made a page just for you (cause we’ve got words + a vision just from our hearts to yours).
a note from Eliza
Dear badass preteen & teen girl,
You're not too much. You don't have too many feelings, too much (insert body feature here), too much intensity, too much of a need for blessed quiet, too many opinions, too much softness, or too much... of, well, anything.
You're just right the way you are (and some days I get that that's harder to believe). I want to meet you here: loud, tender, scared, quiet, full, yearning, ecstatic, unsure, and in the middle of it all. Life is crazy sometimes. Let's make it less crazy (or only the good kind of crazy).
How would your life be different if you were more real?
I mean — if you let go of the masks — showed up as more of yourself — was honest with how you felt — stopped stressing about saying the next ‘right’ thing so that people like you or think you’re ‘cool’ —
And instead…
You were nerdy and passionate —
You were open when you were struggling, and got real support —
You let yourself be as brilliant as you are (and didn’t hide it) —
You stopped judging your feelings (we’ve all got ‘em) —
You started living more of YOUR life (and not somebody else’s idea of what it should look like)?
Let’s find out.
Love, Eliza
Badass Girls Creator
at badass girls we’re all about mentorship
[aka big sisters]
You see, our team isn’t therapists —
(though we think therapy is cool)
— we’re mentors.
We think we all need really great big sisters who have our back.
things about our badass girl community:
You likely:
have a heart that’s somehow bigger than your bodies (yeah, the daily feelings roller coaster is no joke)
want to feel more confident being yourself (…still figuring out that whole ‘who am i’ thing though)
breath a sigh of relief (and maybe disbelief a little bit…) that you could actually just be who you are with other teen girls
dream of making art with your life (taking that epic trip, writing that song, having the most amazing friends, changing the world…!)
are ready for more real talk (and a legit big sister you love who has your back sounds amazing)
we’re a little different
(than other programs)
and we like it that way
(#❄️)
what makes us different?
A lot of our programs are online (so you can join us 🤷🏻♀️ wherever you are 🌎).
All of our mentors are ages 18-24, so they actually get it. 🙏
We talk about real things (that most folks don’t talk to preteens and teens about — have you noticed?), like: anxiety, having a period that doesn’t suck, sex ed that isn’t just about not getting pregnant, and getting free of the friend drama that swamped you this week. Why? Cause like, these are the real things that fill up our lives too (also, life’s better when we talk about them).
oh, and here’s a myth to bust:
we’re not just for people who are really struggling
(though if you are, we got you, boo)
everyone deserves badass big sisters
let’s hang out:
meet our founder:
Eliza
[she/they]
creator of badass girls + host of the be real podcast + mentor
Eliza’s the best-selling author of “Mothering & Daughtering”, and for 15 years she’s been creating space for preteen + teen girls to be their real selves.
more about eliza
Eliza [she/they] is a best-selling author, speaker, workshop facilitator, and professional big sister who keeps it real. Since the age of 15 she’s been teaching at workshop centers and conferences (like the Omega Institute, Esalen Institute, Kripalu Center, and the Emerging Women Conference) alongside leaders 4 times her age. She’s the co-author of the best-selling book with her mom, “Mothering & Daughtering: Keeping Your Bond Strong Through the Teen Years” (she wrote the sassy side for teen girls).
For almost 15 years, Eliza’s writing, speaking and teaching has called B.S. on the cultural stereotype that teen girls are selfish, mean, vapid, and image-obsessed. Instead, she gives voice to, celebrates, and creates spaces for teen girls’ sensitivity, wacky weird passions, feisty comebacks, fierce truths, tender hearts, sensual embodiment, and full-out, real-talk, whole, imperfect, ever-evolving self expression.
Eliza was trained as a Peer Educator for Planned Parenthood in High School, and was a consultant for Eve Ensler, (“Vagina Monologues,”) on her book for teenage girls: “I Am an Emotional Creature” (so you could say she specializes in making awkward & important topics cool & normal). Eliza graduated from Brown University with an undergraduate degree in Gender & Sexuality Studies, and is a certified Qoya movement teacher. Her deepest pride is her relationship with her self, especially her tender friendship with her own anxiety. She lives with her partner, Will, in Vermont.
